The crew of Expedition Audacity will embark on a pioneering voyage from Greece in January 2025, with a bold mission to assess ocean and lake health worldwide. This ambitious expedition will conduct a comprehensive baseline survey of environmental RNA (eRNA) and DNA (eDNA), collecting critical data on marine biodiversity. In collaboration with Privateer, we will utilize cutting-edge satellite technology to precisely track and record sample locations, ensuring impactful data collection.
Our initial expedition will navigate the Mediterranean before crossing the Atlantic to Canada, journeying through the Northwest Passage to fulfill a Make-A-Wish. Along the way, we’ll visit all Mission Blue Hope Spots on our route, studying marine ecosystems and climate change impacts. We will also engage with key historical, social, and environmental sites, fostering cultural exchanges with Indigenous communities to deepen global understanding of shared environmental challenges and heritage.
Scientific research lies at the heart of this expedition, with a focus on biodiversity assessments and climate studies. The data we collect will greatly enhance our understanding of how human activity and climate shifts are affecting ocean health.
This 10-15 year circumnavigation marks the start of a long-term global data collection initiative to advance ocean health research. It represents our deep commitment to exploration, scientific discovery, and environmental stewardship.
